Abstract

Coolant is a medium that functions to absorb heat. The heat is obtained from the combustion of fuel in the cylinder. The engine cooling system uses the principle of heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation. This paper aims to determine the generator cooling system on the MV. Trifosa Ship at PT Janata Marina Indah. The data collection methods used by the author include: documentation, observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results of this scientific paper state that the cooling system used on the MV. Trifosa Ship is a type of closed cooling system. The indirect cooling system uses two cooling media, namely fresh water and sea water. Fresh water is used to cool the motor parts, while sea water is used to cool fresh water. Routine maintenance of components such as pumps, pipes, valves, strainers, coolers, and expansion tanks greatly affect the stability of engine temperature. Common problems such as blockages in filters, deposits on pipes, and disruption to pumps can cause decreased cooling system performance, even overheating of the engine. In the operation and maintenance of the fresh water cooling system, auxiliary engines are greatly needed on the MV. Trifosa ship. This inspection can be done while the machine is operating, and it is also necessary to carry out maintenance or replace the components periodically. The conclusion of this scientific paper is that the generator cooling system at PT Janata Marina Indah on the MV. Trifosa uses a closed cooling system. Therefore, the author and various parties provide input or solutions to improve performance both as a team and individually by workers at PT. Janata Marina Indah.
