Abstract
Indonesia is one of the largest coal exporters in the world. To meet global market demand, coal export activities in various regions take the sea route. Handling coal cargo in ships requires several techniques to avoid losses, both material and immaterial losses. With the existence of techniques in handling coal cargo, PT Samudra Adhi Jaya at the port of Sluke Rembang can optimize between coal cargo and ship capacity. This study aims to examine how the correct method in handling coal cargo, what are the risks that occur if coal cargo is not handled properly, and what emergency procedures should be carried out if this happens. The results showed that, the handling of coal cargo by PT Samudra Adhi Jaya in order to optimize the capacity between the ship and the new coal cargo, applied several methods, namely preparing the stowage plan, preparing the loading space, preparing the tools needed for loading and unloading, and coordinating with each crew involved.
