Abstract

The implementation of Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) in the Tanjung Emas Semarang Shipping Lane has an important role in improving the safety, efficiency, and smoothness of ship traffic. This study aims to analyze the impact of the implementation of the VTS system on ship maneuvers and how this system supports the captain's decision making in supporting shipping safety. The research methods used include direct observation, interviews with VTS operators, and secondary data analysis from related literature and regulations. The results of the study indicate that VTS contributes to improving ship navigation by providing real-time information on traffic, weather conditions, and potential hazards. This allows the captain to perform safer and more efficient maneuvers, and reduces the risk of accidents in the shipping lane. In addition, this system helps optimize ship traffic management, reduce congestion, and increase the competitiveness of Tanjung Emas Port as a national shipping center. However, this study also identified several obstacles in the implementation of VTS, including limited technology and human resource readiness in its operation. Therefore, infrastructure improvements, operator training, and periodic evaluations are needed to ensure the effectiveness of the VTS system in the long term. Keywords: Vessel Traffic Service, ship maneuvering, navigation safety, navigation efficiency, Tanjung Emas Semarang.
