Abstract
In the shipping industry, propellers are an important component that influences ship performance and efficiency. Propellers work by converting mechanical power from the engine into thrust that moves the ship through the water. There are several common types of propellers in use, including the Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP), a type that can adjust its angle or pitch based on operational needs, providing more flexible control over speed and fuel efficiency. Fixed Pitch Propeller (FPP) is a type of propeller with a fixed pitch used on large ships with low RPM and high torque. This paper aims to determine fouling and how to maintain and repair the propeller on the MT Success Victory XXXIV ship. Writing scientific papers involves using data from observations, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. Fouling on the propeller of the MT Succes Victory XXXIV ship is caused by the attachment of marine organisms such as barnacles and algae, which reduces the ship's efficiency and increases fuel consumption and operational costs. This problem can be solved by carrying out maintenance such as cleaning using a wire brush or grinder, as well as applying an anti-fouling coating. The maintenance improves fuel efficiency, reduces drag while the ship is sailing, and reduces gas emissions, providing economic and environmental benefits. Lack of maintenance on the propeller of the MT Succes Victory XXXIV ship caused a decrease in efficiency due to fouling. Proper maintenance, such as manual cleaning with grinders and high-pressure machines and coating with anti-fouling fluid, is essential to maintain propeller performance. Keywords: Propeller, Repair
