Abstract
Indonesia is a country consisting of thousands of islands, reaching 13,446 islands, and is known as a maritime country because the area of the ocean is larger than the land, around 2/3 of the total area of the country of Indonesia. As an archipelagic country, the maritime sector has a crucial role in the economy and security of a country, especially in the field of sea transportation which is part of the National transportation system that needs to unite the entire territory of Indonesia. There are several factors that can cause accidents in sea transportation modes, namely due to 3 (three) important factors, namely human error, technical factors and weather factors (nature). Shipping safety is an important aspect in the maritime industry that involves the protection of passengers, crew and ship cargo. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of independent variables, namely the Role of the Harbor Master, Ship Crew Resources, ISM Code and Communication Skills for the dependent variable, namely Shipping Safety. The population in this study was 128 people consisting of ship crew and Padangbai office employees who had a classification of knowledge about shipping safety and the sample in this study was 100 respondents with the technique used was the non- probability sampling technique, namely by using quota sampling. Quota Sampling is a technique for determining samples from a population that has certain characteristics up to the desired number (quota). The analysis method used is descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis, the data was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis with the help of (Software) Statistic Package For Social Science (SPSS). Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the research model of the multiple linear regression equation is Y = 2.2804 + 0.393X1 + 0.210X2 + 0.201X3 + 0.200X4 + µ. From the results of the regression, it can be seen that the most dominant variable influencing Shipping Safety is the Role of the Harbor Master variable with a regression coefficient of 0.393. The results of this study with the t-test hypothesis testing indicate that the variables of the Role of the Harbor Master, Crew Resources, ISM Code and Communication Skills have a positive and significant effect on Shipping Safety at the Padangbai Bali ferry port. With an r square test of 47.6%, which means that the increase in shipping safety at the Padangbai ferry port is influenced by the Role of the Harbor Master, Ship Crew Resources, ISM Code and Communication Skills, namely 52.4% and other factors that influence the increase in shipping safety at the Padangbai Bali ferry port are 47.6%.
