Abstract

The air compressor is an important device in the operation of the MT Seroja XX tanker, providing pressurized air for control systems, pneumatic tools and cleaning. However, problems such as inefficiency, high energy consumption, and failure to meet air requirements at critical times often occur, disrupting ship operations and increasing costs. This research aims to identify factors causing inefficiency of air compressors on board MT Seroja XX, developed a strategy to optimize the performance of the air compressor on board the MT Seroja XX, and produced the impact of implementing the optimization strategy on the wind requirements and operational efficiency of the ship. The research method used in this research is a qualitative method, the analysis used is obtained from various data collection techniques through various data collection techniques, interviews, document analysis, focused discussions, or observations that have been outlined in field notes (transcripts). Another form of data is qualitative data, namely images obtained through taking photos. The research results show that the problem of air compressor inefficiency on the MT Seroja XX ship is caused by mechanical wear, air leaks, operations beyond optimal capacity, and lack of maintenance and monitoring. To overcome this, several optimization strategies can be applied: routine preventive maintenance, use of inverter technology to regulate motor compressor speed, implementation of automatic control systems, and crew training. Implementation of this strategy will increase energy efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure consistent availability of tailwind, thereby increasing vessel operational efficiency and reducing overall costs.
