Abstract
The Navigation District serves as a communication medium to convey information related to maritime safety to all ships at sea. The Navigation District functions as a telecommunications aid for navigation, both between land stations and among coastal radio stations in Tanjung Priok. It also encompasses all coastal radio stations in Tanjung Priok and is responsible for managing all communication needs and challenges for maritime operations at these coastal radio stations. In relation to the two, the radio equipment used for the GMDSS. GMDSS is an internationally approved safety package that consists of safety procedures, types of equipment, and communication protocols used to enhance safety and facilitate the rescue of ships, boats, or aircraft that are experiencing accidents. Navigation comes from the Greek language, consisting of the word "navis," which means boat or ship, and "agake," which means to direct a ship during a voyage. The navigation system at sea includes several key activities. Indonesia, as the largest archipelagic country in the world, relies on ships as the most efficient means of transportation to reach all its islands. However, in maritime transport, there are three closely related aspects that are closely interconnected. To understand how the GMDSS communication system operates in Class I Navigation District Tanjung Priok in accordance with SOLAS 1974 Regulation 1974/1978 in assisting during emergencies and for navigation safety.
