Abstract

emergency situation normal conditions that occurs on board a ship which has the potential to a danger to the safety of people, property, cargo, ships and the surrounding environment. Therefore, in SOLAS 1974 chapter IV regulates radio communications", namely the global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS), it mentions guidelines regarding how to maximize GMDSS to ensure safe navigation and communication and to minimize casualties when an emergency occurs. All officers must fully understand how to use this equipment because several incidents occurred due to in using this equipment. This research was carried out using qualitative methods with the aim of evaluating the service implementation of the use of GMDSS equipment during search and rescue (SAR) operations in KN. SAR SADEWA 231 Semarang National Search and Rescue Agency in accordance with GMDSS MANUAL. Data collection for this paper used field research using observation methods, interview methods as well as literature study. The result of this paperl is to understanding of the systematics of communication during an emergency using GDMSS as an effort to save lives at sea during search and rescue (SAR) operations.
