Abstract
Damage to the propeller, especially the propeller leaf, affects the performance of the ship. This damage causes the power transferred from the engine to not be absorbed optimally; in other words, power losses occur in the propeller. The propeller is included in the annual class inspection for seaworthiness. The propeller often collides with floating objects or foreign objects. This impact causes the propeller blades to become curved, cracked, or damaged. When this damage is not repaired immediately, it will have detrimental effects on the construction of the ship or parts of the machine. Due to this problem, it is necessary to maintain and repair the propeller. The data type for this paper is a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, primary and secondary data sources. The methods used to collect the data are observation, interviews, and literature study. The results of the discussion in this paper are propeller maintenance and repair, which includes several processes. The first process is propeller maintenance; this can be done by avoiding grounded areas and coral reefs that cause damaged or bent propeller leaves. Meanwhile, the process of repairing the propeller if damage occurs, the welding process if there is a crack or chip on the propeller blade, and balancing the propeller are the final stages in repairing the propeller. The discussion of this paper, it is recommended to carry out regular maintenance and repair of the propeller or an annual inspection. Maintenance and repairs are carried out to avoid damage to the propeller so that it can rotate optimally. Keywords: Maintenance, Repair, Propeller
