Abstract
The Anchor Handling process will run smoothly when everything goes well and there are no obstacles. However, it is different when the implementation of the misunderstanding in communication between the Captain and the Crew and the Damage to equipment that threatens the safety of the work of the ship crew resulting in a delay in the Anchor handling process. The occurrence of misunderstandings in communication between the Captain and the Crew and the Damage to equipment that threatens the safety of the work of the crew causes the length of the anchor handling process and can cause losses. In this regard, this study aims to find out the factors that cause delays in the anchor handling process that cause the safety of the ship crew to be threatened and efforts that can be made to improve the anchor handling process and work safety on the OPS Astrid Ship owned by PT. Oceanindo Prima Sarana. The research method of this thesis is qualitative descriptive. Data sources are taken from primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques using field research which includes, observation and documentation so that data validity techniques are obtained. The results of the study concluded that the inhibiting factors or obstacles that caused the decline in the anchor handling process and the work safety of the ship crew were the lack of communication between the captain and the crew and the damage to the equipment due to lack of maintenance. The impact of this is the delay in the anchor handling process, losses for the company and threatening the safety of the crew. Efforts that can be made are Conducting periodic inspections and maintenance of anchor handling equipment, Holding direct briefings and supervision during the implementation of maintenance for all crew members, Holding tool box meetings before anchor handling activities and evaluating after anchor handling activities and Improving good relations between officers and Rating in communicating both directly and by using communication tools.
