Abstract

Each ship has its own control system to carry out maneuvers when sailing or docking at a port. One piece of machinery that supports the smooth operation of a ship is the steering gear. A steering gear aircraft is one of the auxiliary machines whose function is to change and determine the direction of movement of the ship, both straight and turning, to the left (port side) and to the right (starboard side), by moving the rudder to the right (rudder leaf). A hydraulic cylinder is a cylinder or mechanical actuator rod that is used to provide force. Hydraulic cylinders are used to convert fluid power into mechanical motion. Based on observations made by the author, the type of data used is qualitative data, namely data obtained by the author in the field when carrying out ground practice (PRADA) at PT. ASDP Persero Kupang Branch. The data collection methods used by the author are the interview method, observation method, and documentation method. This study discusses damage to the cylinder hydraulic steering gear system and efforts to repair it on KMP ships. Uma Kalada belongs to PT. ASDP Persero Kupang Branch. The discussion in this KTI is to find out the causes of damage to the hydraulic cylinder. Another thing is that repairs are carried out so that the hydraulic cylinder can work well and the ship can operate smoothly. The damage found was that the rudder could not turn left and right because the cylinder tube was checked for wear and the piston seal was damaged. Repair efforts include replacing a new piston seal, replacing a new cylinder tube, keeping the cylinder and piston clean, and checking the condition of the seal regularly.
