Abstract
General Service pump is one of the needs that must be met and must be found on a ship. General service can function into several types, namely bilge pumps, ballast pumps, fire pumps and sea water cooling. The general service pump uses a centrifugal type pump whose working principle is to convert the kinetic energy (speed) of the liquid into potential energy (dynamic) through an impeller that rotates in the casing to give speed to the liquid and convert it into high pressure. The purpose of this observation is to find out the factors that cause impeller in General Service Pump as well as efforts to prevent impeller damage and how to maintain it. The method used by the author is observation and interviews conducted during pre-service at MT. GREEN LAND. The results after carrying out repairs and maintenance on the General Service Pump regularly can smooth operations on the pump, maximize pump performance and reduce the risk of component damage and extend the life of the General Service Pump.
