Abstract

The provision of fresh water on board the ship is very influential for the needs of the crew and supports ship operations. Fresh Water Generators often experience problems resulting in a lack of fresh water produced. Maintenance of the Fresh Water Generator is the key to ensuring optimal fresh water production. The decrease in fresh water production due to salt deposits on the evaporator is a challenge that needs to be overcome in maintaining the Fresh Water Generator. Fresh water generator maintenance carried out on a scheduled basis can increase fresh water production. This observation aims to determine the maintenance of the fresh water generator aircraft. Understanding of measures to prevent the decline in fresh water production. The data collection methods used were observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study at PT. Janata Marina Indah. The type of data used is qualitative data. The documentation method is used to collect data from journals related to the problems observed. A literature study was carried out to find a solution based on relevant literature. With a combination of these methods, this observation aims to determine the maintenance of the fresh water generator. This observation discusses the problem of reducing vacuum and salt deposits in the fresh water generator on the ship KM. Dharma Rucitra I. Observation results show that the decrease in vacuum is caused by damage to the ejector pump mechanical seal and the presence of salt deposits. Repair efforts are carried out by checking for leaks, tightening bolts, and replacing damaged components. To overcome salt deposits on the evaporator plate, clean it with a nylon brush and chemical liquid. After repair and maintenance, the fresh water generator produces fresh water using a distillation process. The conclusion from the observations is the need for routine maintenance of fresh water generators to maintain their performance.
