Abstract
The cylinder liner is an important part of a diesel engine, which is a tube where the piston works and moves up and down to compress air and transfer heat energy into kinetic energy. Factors such as wear of the cylinder liner, erosion/abrasion, corrosion, friction, cooling, lubrication system, and cracking of the cylinder liner can cause damage to the cylinder liner. Increased clearance between the piston and cylinder can cause gas leaks, reduced compression pressure and reduced power output. From the observation results, it can be seen that the most dominant cause from the results of the checks carried out is lack of lubrication maintenance. Then wear of the cylinder liner can occur. Thus, checking the lubricant and measuring the cylinder liner regularly must be carried out to determine the condition of the quality of the lubricating oil and how far the cylinder liner is experiencing wear due to friction. The importance of maintaining the cylinder liner on the main engine is very necessary so that the life of these components is longer, maintained and saves more maintenance costs.
