Abstract

The container handling procedure is a document management process that is taken care of for the smooth movement of containers from unloading containers from ships to loading containers onto ships while what is meant by container movement is movement between container places and activities carried out on these containers. PT. Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines Surabaya has problems in the field in terms of delays in the stuffing process, obstacles encountered in the field, and processing of container documents at Pelindo. In this regard, the container is late to enter the terminal area because it has passed the closing deadline on the receiving card full, so that the document for the cancellation of loading/transfer of the ship must be carried out. Writing this Final Project aims to 1) Know the procedure of container movement, 2) Know the procedure of handling containers, and 3) Know the obstacles in the field in the process of moving and handling containers. This type of research includes descriptive research with the object of research on the process of movement and handling of containers. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and literature study. Data analysis used is qualitative data analysis. The results of the analysis obtained are as follows: 1) Controlling the procedure of container movement, namely a) In PT. Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines Surabaya contains container status and container location codes that are used to control container movement and inventory, b) Use of the Container Inventory Control (CIC) application. 2) Handling of containers that are late in entering the container terminal area, including : a) Making documents over the ship at Pelindo, b) Preparing for the stuffing procedure and c) Carrying out accurate calculations regarding the amount and volume of cargo. 3) Field obstacles encountered in the procedure of moving and handling containers, namely : a) The cargo in the goods owner's warehouse is not ready for stuffing into containers, b) Highway traffic that is passed by trailers, c) Lack of communication between PT. Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines Surabaya with the forwarder management, d) There was damage to the trucking. Key Words : Container Movement Procedure, Container Handling Procedure, Stuffing.
