Abstract
A diesel engine is an internal combustion aircraft (Internal Combustion Engine) because inside it gets potential energy (heat) and how it works mechanics are obtained from fuel combustion that occurs in the engine cylinder as the main engine on the ship. Diesel engines have more advantages, namely more efficient fuel consumption, easier to operate other auxiliary aircraft and have great power. Then the diesel engine should work properly and there are no obstacles. Flexible exhaust has an important role in the smooth operation of the diesel engine exhaust. If there are problems in the flexible exhaust, the diesel engine will work less optimally. Flexible exhaust is a generator engine exhaust component to connect the exhaust gas system flow on the generator. So that it can dampen vibrations in the generator engine. The purpose of writing this paper is to determine the cause of damage to the flexible exhaust of the diesel engine, maintenance and repair of the flexible exhaust. The methods carried out include observation methods that directly observe on MPI.S-044 The interview method is conducted by interviewing the ship's crew. documentation method for taking pictures of flexible exhaust generators on vessels. MPI.S-044. and the last method of literature study from journal or book references. The cause of damage to the flexible exhaust of the diesel engine. The result of this discussion is that factors causing damage to the flexible exhaust generator were found, including the presence of particle particles in the exhaust gas, corrosion of the flexible exhaust generator due to chemical reactions between exhaust gas and matrial. The governor repair and maintenance system on the generator engine by coupling components, and cleaned periodically where this is done after working hours reach a predetermined limit.
