Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of variations in CO2 gas shielding (100%) and shielding gas mixing (80% argon + 20% CO2) and flow rate variations of 10 L/min, 15 L/min and 20 L/min and ampere variations of 160 A, 200 A and 250 A on FCAW welding of Grade EH36 material 24 mm thick with Grade A 16 mm thick on the ship deck insert plate. The results of this study show that the average heat input of FCAW welding with 100% CO2 gas shielding and 80% Ar - 20% CO2 mixing gas shielding is between 1.40-1.67 kJ/mm. Welding defects were found in specimens using shielding gas mixing Ar 80% - CO2 20% in the form of worm holes, porosity, slag inclusion and incomplete fusion after testing. Defects in welding materials that use shielding gas mixing Ar 80% - CO2 20% do not affect the hardness value and tensile value. FCAW welding with 100% CO2 shielding gas is more effective because no welding defects are found and the price of CO2 gas is cheaper in terms of procurement of goods.
