Abstract

Vibrations that occur continuously with high intensity can unconsciously affect the health of the crew members who are on duty on the ship. Health and comfort problems can occur for crew members because they are required to be in the ship's engine room which can last very long according to the operational schedule and route of the ship's voyage. This study aims to determine the measurement of vibration levels in the engine room of the ship and to find out the steps that can be taken to reduce vibration and the impact of vibration. The data analysis technique used in this study is direct and manual vibration measurements. The manual vibration calculations used in this study are longitudinal vibrations and torsional vibrations. The results showed that the excitation amplitude value for manually calculated longitudinal vibrations yielded a result of 0.217 kN. The torsional oscillation value in torsional vibration obtained from manual calculations is 0.0127 kN. The results of direct measurements carried out at 20 experimental object points gave the result that the vibration level values at all measurement object points still met the applicable standards in the ABS (American Bureau of Shipping). The biggest vibration obtained from direct measurements occurs at point no.11 or clutch no. 1, which is equal to 5.66 mm/s. Based on the average of the data directly measured at 20 points, namely 1.22 m/s2. The vibration level value for the human body is categorized as "uncomfortable" in the ISO 2631 standard. Keywords: Vibration, Engine Room, Longitudinal, Torsional..
