Abstract
Some engine units have a power transfer system, namely a gearbox that functions to transmit power or engine power to the ship's propeller so that the unit can move to move both rotation and shift. A gearbox is a special tool needed to adjust the power or torque (moment/power) of the rotating motor, and the gearbox is also a means of converting the power of the rotating motor into greater power. The gearbox or transmission is one of the main components of the motor which is referred to as a power transfer system, the transmission functions to move and change the power of a rotating motor, which is used to rotate the engine spindle and perform feeding movements. The transmission also functions to regulate the speed of movement and torque and turn around, or reduce the rotation so that it can move. Manual transmission or better known as a gearbox, there are several problems which include damage to the ship's gearbox that must be identified and must be resolved manually. Data were collected by two methods, namely the method of data sources and data collection methods. The source method of the type of data obtained is based on primary data and secondary data, while the data collection methods include: observation, interviews, document techniques, data collection time and library research. The damage includes overheating of the gearbox due to lack of oil in the gearbox and damage to the gearbox cooling pump, there is also due to gearbox wear due to lack of checking on the ship's gearbox. The solution is to do periodic checks on the gearbox, which must be done carefully and do an overhaul to check for damage to the ship's gearbox. For the ship to run smoothly.
