Abstract

The sea water cooling system is used as a cooling medium in fresh water which cools the heat exchanger which can cool fresh air from a closed circuit. The cooling system is the main system that functions to maintain the auxiliary engine so that the engine temperature is in ideal conditions. Based on the heat balance, the cooling function of the auxiliary engine is necessary and important. Because the heat will be absorbed by the cooling system. From various problems with the cooling system, if the cooling system is not working as it should. So it is known that there is damage to parts of the sea water system as a coolant that is poorly maintained, reducing the performance of the auxiliary engine and causing heat in the auxiliary engine. So, to make it easier to use the cooling system, it is necessary to carry out regular maintenance following the procedures in the manual. The author uses descriptive writing methods to obtain primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained by the author through direct observation through interviews with the ship's engine room crew. Secondary data was obtained through special vessels, manuals, and maintenance management books. Based on the results of the analysis of damage to the cooling system, and repairs to the cooling system to determine routine and periodic maintenance. Correct repair process according to the auxiliary engine manual, and efforts to prevent heat by checking sea air circulation as a coolant and maintenance according to the specified time.
