Abstract
This writing aims to examine and explain the role of the Safety Management Manual (SMM) on the safety of passengers on the batam jet ship owned by PT batam bahari sejahtera. The data collection method was carried out using a qualitative descriptive approach, namely analyzing documents in the form of a collection of written words from people who carried out activities in the field that had been observed by researchers. In addition, data collection was also carried out on the object of research through the observation method, interview method and library method. From the results of the discussion, it is found that the indicators of ship and shipping safety are two sides that are not separated, the ship must have safety equipment including life jackets, fire extinguishers, documents and certificates, suitable conditions for ship sails. The health of the crew of the ship, all must be properly prepared and ensured their existence and condition so that the voyage will be safe and secure. At PT Batam Bahari Sejahtera, the crew of the ship have been trained and prepared to maintain the safety of passengers as seen by the routine inspection and maintenance on the Batam Jet 5 ship. From this it can be concluded that the the role of the SMM on the safety of passengers on the batam jet ship owned by PT Batam Bahari Sejahtera is good and can improve the safety of passengers.
