Abstract

Fire extinguishers are very necessary to support the safety of a ship's operation, and must comply with applicable provisions to ensure ship safety, prevent fires on board or avoid environmental damage, especially waters and property. Fire extinguishers such as foam systems are very important to support the safety of a ship's operation, and must comply with applicable regulations. The purpose of this paper is to determine the role of the foam system as a fire extinguisher, to find out the advantages of the foam system, to know the process of extinguishing the foam system. The method used in this paper uses qualitative data with primary and secondary data sources. These extinguishers require regular and thorough maintenance so that at any time they are needed the extinguisher can work optimally and to avoid continuous damage. The advantage of using a foam extinguisher system is that it works effectively, it doesn't need to take a long time and has a working method of cooling the fire and covering the burning fuel, preventing re-contact with oxygen which causes the flame to return and for the extinguishing process by directing a water canon that is ready to fire. releasing foam media that is ready to work by closing the fire and eliminating contact between the fire source and oxygen (fire triangle).
