Abstract
Accidents in the maritime world can occur due to several factors. The factor that plays a major role in the occurrence of accidents at sea is human error, the ultimate truth that causes this is the actions and negligence of humans themselves (Human Error). Therefore, all ships that will sail must register to fulfill legal status. The legal status and certification of this ship is very important for life safety, pollution and operational efficiency of the ship. Legal Status and Ship Certification is a process of measuring ships, registering ships, and determining the nationality of ships. Ship registration includes ownership rights, mortgage charges and registration of other objects on board the ship so that the ship is declared "seaworthy". Seaworthy is the condition of a ship that meets the requirements for materials, construction, building, machinery, stability and electricity. Every ship must have measurements taken which will be validated by government officials authorized by the Ministry. Based on the description above, the author tried to research more deeply to create a written work with the title "The Importance of Legal Status and Keywords: accident, shipping, legal, safety, certification
