Abstract

The engine is the main piece of equipment that drives the ship, so engine support also needs to be considered, including the cause of rising lubricating oil temperatures. The increase in lubricating oil temperature in the engine is very important to note because if the temperature of the lubricating oil rises drastically, it can cause engine components to be damaged, resulting in damage in the form of wear and tear that ultimately affects the life of the engine and its components, which are not durable. Engine temperature can also increase due to several causes, such as blockages in the capillary pipes in the lubricating oil cooler, and it can also be caused by the age of the lubrication system components and lubricants that have worn out. Therefore, the author realizes that maintenance of lubrication support components is necessary. The method used in writing this paper is a qualitative method, with primary data sources derived from the implementation of land practices and secondary data sources derived from scientific journals on the internet. Writing is done directly to the object, namely the ship owned by PT ASDP INDONESIA FERRY, in order to obtain the required data through several means, namely, interviews with ship crew, observation, and literature study. In order to maintain optimal engine performance, the maintenance of the lubricating oil must be good so that there is no abnormal temperature rise. Maintenance that can be done is to carry out planned maintenance and replacement of lubricating oil and components related to lubrication. From the maintenance that has been carried out on the supporting components, it can be concluded that the engine is getting better, there is no return of abnormal temperature rise in the lubricating oil, and the engine feels better when operated.
