Abstract

It is better for ships now to use diesel engines, both for propulsion engines and auxiliary engines because diesel engines are more effective than diesel engines. In meeting the needs of shipping, the ship must be seaworthy. By considering this paper, the author can contribute in solving problems related to turbocharger maintenance on the main driving machine, so that the engine can still be used properly. The research object used by the author is the maintenance of the turbocharger on the main driving machine, the data collection methods used by the author, namely the interview, observation and literature study. While the data analysis method is collecting existing data. Arrange systematically and be presented to others. With the development of technology, especially in diesel motors, a method or method that can increase the power of a diesel motor has been found, among others by using a turbocharger. To produce complete combustion from fuel whose volume has been increased even though the cylinder volume is not added, it is necessary to add an additional amount of air flowed into the motor cylinder, this can only be done by forced intake through the turbocharger. Periodic maintenance must be carried out routinely, especially lubrication, so that the turbocharger is in a state ready for operation and produces a stable pressure so that the work process can achieve maximum results. Maintenance of turbochargers on the main engine by managing turbocharger maintenance, maintenance of turbocharger lubricating oil, turbine, compressor, intercooler, air filter, inlet and outlet pipes according to their working hours and instruction manual book.
