Abstract

Shipping Safety is very important and occupies a central position in all aspects of shipping. Ignoring Shipping Safety tends to result in material, medical, environmental pollution and loss of life. However, seeing the cases of ship accidents increasing from year to year and the increasing number of fatalities, shipping safety needs extra attention. This study aims to analyze the effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable. With the population of Captains, a sample of 75 respondents was taken. The sampling technique is Non-Probability Sampling using the census method. Data collection using a questionnaire, data analysis techniques used include validity test, reliability test, classical assumption test, multiple linear regression and hypothesis testing. Based on the results of the research and multiple analysis, the equation is: Y = -0.219 + 0.308X1 + 0.200X2 + 0.192X3 + 0.349X4 + µ From the multiple linear regression equation, it can be seen that the most dominant variable that influences shipping safety is the Guidance variable with a regression coefficient of 0.349. With the coefficient of determination (Adjusted R square) the result is 0.837 or 83.7% which means that Shipping Safety at the Semayang Port of Balikpapan is influenced by the variables of Telecommunications Equipment, Crew Resources, Ship Seaworthiness and Guidance which is 83.7% and other factors that affect Shipping Safety at the Semayang Balikpapan Port are 16.7%. Thus the results of the study indicate that telecommunications equipment, crew resources, ship seaworthiness and guidance have a positive and significant effect on shipping safety at Semayang Port, Balikpapan.
