Abstract

ABSTRACT The development of water transportation is very rapid. Moreover, the earth is dominated by water. Every ship (marine) that sails must be supported with the best capabilities and manpower. The engine on the ship has a very central role in keeping the ship sailing properly. Power from the engine must always be maintained by ensuring all systems on the engine can work properly, including the cooling system. An operating engine will generate heat. The main function of the cooling system is to transfer heat from inside the engine to outside the engine. This system is designed to remove heat from the engine and maintain the engine at its most efficient operating temperature or prevent overheating, so a suitable cooling system is designed for ships. The purpose of writing this scientific essay is to find out the factors that cause leaks in the cooling system of the main engine of the ship. maintenance and repair of the main engine cooling system. The method of collecting data in this paper uses the observation method, interview method, documentation method, and literature study. In the discussion, it can be concluded that the problem of leaks often occurs in the cooler section, which has been corroded; the valve seat leaks due to improper installation, the bolt housing leaks due to corrosion because it is in direct contact with the cooling system. By using that way, it can be decided to overcome the troubel on the cooler to each component by cleaning each component and welding. Keywords : Diesel, Leaking, Overheating
