Abstract
The lubricating oil cooler is an important auxiliary aircraft on ships where the operation of the main engine is greatly influenced by the good performance of the lubricating oil cooler. The lubricating oil cooler functions to cool the lubricating oil after lubricating the main engine components. So that if there is damage to the lubricating oil cooler it will affect the capacity of the lubricating oil which will reduce the performance of the main engine. Lubrication functions to reduce heat generation due to friction, also cools frictional parts, avoids the harsh sound produced by the engine, avoids significant power losses and protects against corrosion. Based on the results of the paper, it shows that one of the causes of the decreased performance of the lubricating oil cooler: leaking lubricating oil cooling seawater pipes, dirty or clogged filters, suboptimal pump work, poor monometer, and damaged gaskets are the causes of damage to the lubricating oil cooler. Attempts were made to repair and replace the gasket on the lubricating oil cooler, and repair leaky pipes. In this paper, several research methods are used, namely: interview, observation, and documentation methods. Keywords: Lubricating oil cooler, Damage and maintenance
