Abstract

The diesel engine is an internal combustion engine because it gets its potential energy (heat) and its mechanical workings from the combustion of fuel that occurs in the engine cylinder as the main engine on the ship. Diesel engines have more advantages, namely more efficient fuel consumption, being easier to operate other auxiliary aircraft, and having great power. Then the diesel engine must work properly and have no problems. The governor has an important role in the smooth operation of the diesel engine. If there are problems with the governor, the diesel engine will not work optimally. The governor is an internal combustion engine component that automatically regulates engine speed by controlling the amount of fuel flowing, so that the speed can be maintained constant even though the load is changing. The purpose of writing this paper is to find out the causes of damage to the diesel engine governor and the maintenance and repair of the governor. The method used includes the observation method, which directly observes the KM. Dharmakartika IX. The interview method is conducted by interviewing the crew of the ship. documentation method for taking pictures of the governor on the KM ship. Dharmakartika IX. and the last method is library research from journal or book references. The problems are caused the governor’s damage are variareted, the result of the paper’s discussion is founded the factors are caused the governor’s damage they are including overspeed on motor rotation and oil changes after working hours, there is an oil leak in the governor. The governor repair and maintenance system for generator engines involves calibrating and cleaning regularly, which is done after working hours have reached a predetermined limit.
