Abstract
A communication system is a system used to conduct an indirect or direct conversation between a person and another person, a person and a team, or a team and a team. Therefore communication is the main capital in achieving a goal, as well as the role of communication procedures in distress both internal and external to a ship. which aims to facilitate coordination as an effort to overcome problems. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the methods and procedures of distress communication on KN Sadewa 231 which are obstacles in the handling process for maritime safety. Data collection for this paper uses library research and field research with observation methods and interview methods. The result of this research is that from the understanding of systematic communication during an emergency using the GMDSS system as an effort to save lives at sea during Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
