Abstract

Ship supply companies are currently one of the most important things in the transportation of goods or services, PT. Bintang Samudera Mandiri Lines Tbk is a company engaged in sea transportation services and a logistics service provider that owns 9 tugboats and barges and looks for cargo for owned ships. The process of chartering vessels carried out by this company focuses on two schemes, namely using freight charters and time charters. To obtain data, the authors use qualitative methods by way of direct observation, direct interviews with sources and literature study to complete the writing. The author takes the subject matter of the process of chartering ships using a time charter scheme carried out by the company PT. Bintang Samudera Mandiri Lines Tbk as a ship provider with PT. Xiangyu Shipping Line as the charterer of the ship. The results of the observations made in this writing are to find out the process of leasing tugboats and barges using a time charter scheme, the rights and obligations of ship owners and charterers, the documents included, and obstacles during the activity. In the process of leasing a ship using a time charter scheme, several obstacles were found, such as the ship's certificate having an expired date while still in transit, damage to the ship resulting in an off hire and also delays in payment of ship charter. Where the results of these observations are in accordance with the problems that the authors found. To overcome these obstacles, it is necessary to re-check before being on hire by the office and crew. So that it can help run smoothly and not cause losses in the process of chartering boats between the two parties. Kata Kunci: Skema, Time Charter, Ship Owner.
