Abstract

The cooling system is a system that functions to maintain the engine so that the engine temperature is in ideal conditions. The cooling system is necessary and important. Based on the heat balance on the engine, the cooling function of the auxiliary engine becomes important. One component that acts as a coolant for the engine is a fresh water cooler (FWC) in the form of a heat exchanger. The failure of the FWC to cool fresh water as an engine cooling medium results in engine damage. FWC maintenance is an action to restore the FWC's ability to prime condition to cool fresh water and prevent engine failure due to engine temperature exceeding the specified limit. The use of a cooling system requires a repair plan following the procedures in the cooling system manual and by means of treatment, we can find out what problems are during the treatment. The author makes this as a provision to become a professional ship officer. It is beneficial for the general public to know in detail about the cooling system and its maintenance. The method used is the field method. Information data is obtained through observation, namely direct observation in the field where the author practices. The results found at the time of observation by the author that the problems that arise can be resolved properly. The author finds that coolers should be repaired and maintained regularly. These observations, that the cooling system on the ship has two types, namely open and closed. The cooling system if not maintained properly can cause the main engine to overheat. This maintenance is intended to always maintain the cooling system and its supporting devices. Component inspection plays an important role in the smooth running of the cooling system, so checks must be carried out frequently, especially on water temperature and pressure. The purpose of this study was to find out how maintenance actions were carried out on the FWC diesel engine cooling system using the case study method on the KN ship. TRISULA P.111 research results are presented descriptively. The conclusion of this study is that FWC maintenance on navigation ships has been going well, carried out according to the work instructions of the engine instructions, according to schedule, the results of the maintenance are that the engine temperature returns as expected.
