Abstract

Connecting rod is a machine component that serves to forward the motion from the piston to the crankshaft or conversely when the engine is operating. The Piston receives an explosion from combustion and pushes the connecting rod to rotate the crankshaft so that the piston can move up and down. The formulation of the problem in this study is the factors that cause damage to the connecting rod in a diesel generator, the impact of damage to the connecting rod in a diesel generator, and how to prevent damage to the connecting rod in a diesel generator. The method used in this scientific papers is observation, interview, documentation, and library research as a method to determine the causes, impact, and efforts to overcome the damage that occurs to the connecting rod. Based on the results of this study it was concluded that the cause of the damage to the connecting rod was the overheat of the connecting rod resulting in a curving effect of the connecting rod. These causal factors result in abnormal vibration and sound in the diesel engine generator, decreased power in the diesel engine generator. Efforts made to prevent damage to the connecting rod by providing good lubrication, procuring spart parts for the connecting rod components and implementing the Planned Maintenance System in accordance with the instruction manual book. keywords : Connecting Rod, Diesel Generator.
