Abstract
Documents on the ship relate to the Seaworthiness or seaworthiness of the ship. In managing the renewal of passenger ship documents which include ship certification, PT PELNI Surabaya Branch always extends documents before their validity period expires and knows the number of documents on board. The most important extended passenger ship document is the passenger ship safety document because this document is very important to facilitate the shipping process. This document is usually issued by the Tanjung Perak Surabaya Main Harbormaster Office. The author's purpose in this study is to find out the procedures for managing the extension of the passenger ship safety certificate, the obstacles faced and efforts to overcome the obstacles in managing the extension of the passenger ship safety certificate in order to facilitate the ship operational process carried out by PT PELNI Surabaya Branch. In this study, the author uses qualitative methods, namely interviews, observations, and literature studies. Thus the author conducted interviews with the person concerned in managing the extension of the passenger ship safety certificate, the author also made observations to find out the procedure for extending the passenger ship safety certificate, and the author conducted a literature study by collecting data from various references. From the results of the study, it was found that there were obstacles or obstacles in managing the extension of the passenger ship's safety certificate, namely the delay in submitting the ship's certificate extension due to lack of accuracy in checking ship documents and the length of the process of extending the passenger ship's safety certificate caused by the length of the Marine Inspector in inspecting the ship so that there was a delay in issuing the certificate. passenger ship safety.
