Abstract

The ballast system is a system used to adjust the unstable condition of the ship including the slope, trim, and small draft. The ballast pump system is intended to adjust the slope and draft of the ship, as a result of changes in the ship's load so that ship stability can be maintained so that accidents on the ship can be prevented and if an accident occurs, the correct action can be taken so that fatal accidents or deaths can be avoided. The method used by the author for the preparation of scientific papers is observation, interviews, literature study and documentation. Interview is a method with one-sided questions and answers that is carried out systematically, Observation is a method by using the eyes without using this observation tool by direct observation of the object observed, Literature study is a method by which the author makes observations by reading and studying books and articles related to the problem discussed, Documentation is a method of collecting records of events that have passed, documents can be in the form of notes, regulations, and photographs. This has an impact on the stability of the ship which is less than optimal when loading and unloading and can interfere with the ship's departure from the port because it must get good stability. By checking the ballast pipe regularly, it can prevent pipe leakage due to corrosion by replacing pipes from existing spare parts. Based on the facts that have been described, it can be concluded that the factors that cause the ballast system to be less than optimal are the decreased ballast pump pressure due to blockage of the seacheast by garbage at the port and delays in the delivery of ballast pipe spare parts which causes ballast pipe maintenance to be less effective and efficient. While the suggestions that can be concluded are that the ship's ballast system is often checked for components to prevent damage. In the ballast water discharge and filling system to be carried out according to the needs and according to the specified volume to maintain the stability and position of the ship.
