Abstract
Air compressor is a machine that works using air or gas where the air is sucked from the atmosphere. Air pressure is stored in an air bottle. Because this machine is so important, maintenance is not just about keeping the air pressure in the air bottle or changing the lubricant. The maintenance and repair strategy must be in accordance with PMS, because no matter how good the machine is, if it is not maintained it will limit the decline in quality. The purpose of writing this scientific paper is to determine the effect of damage to the suction pressure valve and exhaust valve on the performance of the air compressor in MT. Samudera Biru 168 and to find out the impact of lack of air compressor maintenance actions on air compressor performance in MT. Samudera Biru 168. The method used to solve this problem is by observation. This method requires the author to directly make observations. Next is the interview, the method of asking several questions to the second and third drivers. Next is documentation, this method looks for data in the form of manuals, compressor maintenance records and photos of air compressors. Finally, use a library that uses books as study material. The discussion in this scientific paper contains a description of the object of observation, problems that occur in the compressor, the causes of problems in the air compressor, the consequences of problems with the air compressor, repair and maintenance of problematic air compressors. The result of this scientific work is that the condition of the high and low pressure valves is getting better because the third engineer who is in charge of the compressor always performs maintenance based on manual and PMS and the engineer becomes more disciplined to carry out maintenance. air compressor. The conclusion of this scientific writing is that the problem with the air compressor is caused by the rupture of the valve plate, the valve spring does not work optimally, the engineer's lack of discipline in carrying out maintenance and the lack of spare parts, resulting in a decrease in compressor performance.
