Abstract
Mastery of navigation tools on board is an important factor in sailing in the sea. Shipping in the sea will not run smoothly without navigation tools. One of the important navigation tools in sailing is the GPS navigation tool. GPS is a satellite system that America has with the help of satellite signal alignment. This GPS serves to determine the position of location, speed, direction, time, route in the ship. Therefore, it is very important for ships, because they are very useful in sailing in the sea to maintain safety in sailing. This safety itself is an effort made to reduce the risk of accidents. Apart from the important role of GPS for shipping, the author has the first goal of knowing and understanding how it works, how to operate, as well as the disadvantages and advantages of GPS navigation tools. By coordinating data collection both by observation, interview, through print media, and the internet, accurate discussions can be taken. So that the author understands and understands how it works, how to operate as well as the slowness and advantages of GPS navigation tools. In a GPS-based control system, it is able to move a ship automatically using the help of a microcontroller. Keywords: GPS, work, shipping, safety.
