Abstract
The factors that are very dominant for safety on ships and prevention of ship accidents are natural resources, the construction of the ship itself and routine ship maintenance that must be carried out in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations, accidents can occur on ships both in voyage, moderate anchored or carrying out loading and unloading activities at the port/terminal, even though efforts have been made to avoid this. Fire is an emergency situation caused by the emergence of fire from the causative media in various places/compartments. procedures for handling and optimizing fire hazard conditions on board the MV.Cahaya Mandiri, in carrying out fire suppression procedures each ship crew has different duties and responsibilities according to their respective positions. The purpose of this paper is to find out the procedures for handling and optimizing fire hazards, processes and principles of overcoming fire hazards on ships and knowing the duties and responsibilities of the ship's crew in the event of a fire. The methods used during data collection were field studies, observations, interviews and literature studies. The results of this paper are the procedures carried out in dealing with fire hazards that can pose a threat to the safety of life on the ship, handling procedures that are carried out properly can minimize fires on board.
