Abstract

The cylinder liner is an important part of a diesel engine which is a tube where the piston works and moves up and down to condense air and transfer heat energy into kinetic power. Factors such as cylinder liner wear, erosion / abrasion, corrosion, friction, cooling, lubrication system, and cracking of the cylinder liner can cause damage to the cylinder liner. the addition of leeway between the piston and cylinder can cause gas leakage, reduced compression pressure and reduced energy output. From the observations it can be seen that the most dominant cause is the lack of lubrication treatment. Then the cylinder liner can occur. Thus, lubricating checks and cylinder liner measurements must be carried out routinely to determine the condition of the lubricating oil quality and how far the cylinder liner is subjected to wear due to friction. The importance of maintenance of the cylinder liner on the main engine is needed, so the durabilityof these components becomes longer, maintained, and saves greater maintenance costs. Keywords: cylinder liner, maintenance, ship engine.
