Abstract

Indonesia is the largest maritime country in the world, 2/3 of Indonesia's territory is an ocean area. One of the means of sea transportation is sea transportation in the form of a ship which is a very vital means of transportation for transporting passengers, goods and vehicles. This study aims to determine the effect of the Port Syahbandar's Role, Communication Skills and ISM Code partially on Shipping Safety. The population in this study was taken from representative ship crews in 53 ships and the sample used in this study was 160 respondents. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling with the type of sampling that is saturated sampling. The analytical method used in this research is descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis, then the data is analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of (software) Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS). The results of the hypothesis test show that the variables of the porter's role, communication skills and the ISM Code have a partial effect on shipping safety. The results of multiple linear regression analysis obtained Y = -1.155 + 0.275X1 + 0.435X2 + 0.382X3+µ. From these equations, it is known that the most dominant variable that has an effect on Shipping Safety is the Communication Ability variable with a regression coefficient of 0.435. The R2 (R square) test obtained results of 0.549 or 54.9%, which means that shipping safety is influenced by the port porter's role, communication skills and ISM code which is 54.9% and other factors that affect shipping safety are 45.1% . Key words : The role of the porter, the ability to communicate, ISM Code, and Shipping Safety.
