Abstract
PT. Samudera Makmur Agensi Cabang Cilacap Branch Agency is one of the shipping agents that handles ships going in and out of the Cilacap port, operational staff plays an important role starting from ships arriving to loading or unloading ships and ships leaving the port. Operational staff is also very influential in the development and progress of a company. In this paper, it is intended to find out the performance of operational staff in improving the performance of operational staff, to find out the main tasks and obstacles faced, as well as to find out the efforts made by the management to overcome these obstacles. In this paper, the data collection method used is a qualitative research method which regulates a research method using several aspects such as data collection, interviews, observation and literature study. In this case the authors make direct observations to the port and related agencies that are directly related to the activities of operational staff in carrying out their duties. The method of exposure uses the Qualitative Method. From the results of the study, it can be seen about the duties of operational staff, the obstacles faced by operational staff on the performance of operational staff at PT. Samudera Makmur Agensi Cabang Cilacap, namely the lack of operational staff and the presence of operational staff who work not according to their main tasks, lack of operational vehicle fleet transportation, lack of the ability of some operational staff to speak English and operate a computer. Efforts are being made to overcome obstacles by implementing employee recruitment and coordinating with top management, renting and adding operational vehicles, conducting education and training to improve skills. And progress has been made, namely the operational staff's performance has become effective and efficient after recruiting several employees and working according to their main tasks, a sufficient fleet of vehicles and smooth operational activities, the ability and expertise of operational staff is growing. Operational staff performance becomes easy, fast, and efficient after coordinating with top management, access and performance of operational staff are faster in getting to the work location after renting an additional vehicle, carrying out employee recruitment and coordinating with top management, as well as conducting trainings such as communicating in English and computer use.
