Abstract

Cylinder liner is an engine component mounted on the cylinder block which functions as a measure of the diameter of the piston and cylinder. The cylinder liner on the mother ship's engine serves as a path up and down the piston in the engine. The main engine block containing the cylinder liner is made of special material so that it is not easy to expand and not easy to wear. The moving piston causes wear of the inner cylinder liner wall, this will cause a gap between the piston and the cylinder, which can cause gas leakage, reduced compression pressure and reduced power. Writing a paper is knowing the factors that cause damage to the cylinder liner on the Tugboad SML 102 main engine. Knowing how to perform maintenance on the cylinder liner on the Tugboad SML 102 main engine. Writing in compiling this paper uses data collection methods as a source of writing material. The main factors causing cylinder liner damage are lack of lubricant in the engine, high exhaust gas temperatures or lack of cooling water pressure. The cylinder liner can be treated by cleaning scale, carbon deposits, and rust. Cleaning is done by mechanical and chemical means. After the cylinder liner is clean from dirt, the next process is measuring the inner diameter of the cylinder liner to measure the cylinder liner ovality. The measuring instrument used to measure the cylinder's ovality and taper is the Bore Gauge. Keywords: Cylinder liner, maintenance, measurement
