Abstract
The main discussion in writing this paper is the role of agents in the process of extending the Safety Certificate and the National Pollution Prevention Certificate for Tug Boat BUR-3 PT. Bahtera Setia Pusat Gresik as well as documents needed during the process of extending the ship's certificate and to find out obstacles and how to overcome them. To obtain the data, the writer uses a qualitative method by means of direct observation or observation, then interviews with related parties, and the literature to complete the writing. The results from observations in the field that the procedure for managing the extension of the BUR-3 Tug Boat certificate that needs to be renewed, there are 4 certificates, namely the Shipbuilding Construction Safety Certificate, the Goods Ship Equipment Safety Certificate, the Freight Ship Radio Safety Certificate and the National Certificate of Pollution Prevention from Ships. along with the accompanying supporting documents. In the process of managing the renewal of the ship's certificate, several obstacles were found, such as; The delay in the certificate renewal process is due to a lack of certificate support, the schedule for the Marine Inspector inspection is quite tight, the BUR-3 Tug Boat is not ready because the engine is in the process of being repaired. To overcome obstacles during the process of extending the ship's certificate, the agent needs to complete the document files that are still lacking or have not been fulfilled so that the certificate extension process is not hampered, it is necessary to have the agent's communication readiness with the Marine Inspector, preparation of the BUR-3 Tug Boat and crew members who must be improved.
