Abstract

Fresh Water Cooling System is used to cool diesel engines because it has a lower corrosion rate compared to seawater media. The fresh water cooling system will absorb heat continuously in the diesel engine, so that some disturbances will occur. The disturbance that occurs in the fresh water cooling system is the increase in the fresh water cooling temperature in the diesel engine which reaches 89oC resulting in overheating and leakage of the cooling jacket seal which causes leakage in the cylinder block. The purpose of writing is that improvements to the fresh water cooling system will increase the performance of the fresh water cooling system again. Replacing a leaky jacket cooling seal can improve the cooling and lubrication system in a diesel engine to be optimal. The increase in cooling water temperature is caused by a dirty cooler or fresh water cooler, depleted fresh water reserves, damaged seawater pumps, clogged filters, leaks of cooling pipes. Making improvements to these components can improve the performance of fresh water cooling to be more optimal. Long service life and wear and tear on the seal can cause the jacket cooling seal to leak. Changing the leaking jacket cooling seal can also improve the cooling and lubrication system for the diesel engine to be optimal. This paper uses qualitative descriptive data. Methods of collecting data using observation methods, document techniques, and literature study. The author makes observations about the objects observed during land practice in KN. Prajapati. The results obtained are after draining the dirty expansion tank, filling the depleted fresh water reserve, replacing the impeller on the damaged pump, cleaning the dirty filter, cleaning the FWC grid, filling and replacing the cooling pipe. causing the fresh water temperature to return to normal. After changing the water jacket cooling seal, there is no more leakage in the cylinder block. Keywords: Freshwater Cooling System, Disturbance, Repair.
