Abstract
Water Maker is a system on board the ship that functions to convert sea water into fresh water. Through a high-pressure process that uses a semi-permeable membrane to convert seawater into fresh water. So it is hoped that the installation of these tools can reduce dependence on consumption from land. However, the reality in the field is that the aircraft cannot produce fresh water optimally due to lack of maintenance on the system, blockage of the semi-parmeable membrane and damage to the sand filter outlet which results in a decrease in fresh water production in the Water Maker. In the supply of fresh water on board, there are often several obstacles due to the influence of the components of the Water Maker which is not good. For example, the non-smooth flow of fresh water, the decrease in Low Pressure Pump pressure, the lack of attention to the Sand Filter in the Water Maker system and others. So that the damage to the parts of the Water Maker certainly affects the quality of the fresh water produced. The purpose of this paper is to find out and how to overcome why the low pressure pump pressure drops and the lack of attention to the sand filter. Periodic treatment results on KN. SAR SADEWA 231 shows that by carrying out periodic maintenance, it can take care of decreasing the pressure of the Low Pressure Pump, the lack of attention to the sand filter causes a decrease in fresh water production and the auxiliary equipment does not work normally on the Water Maker. KeyWords: Water Maker, Operation , Maintenance.
