Abstract

Today's shipping traffic is filled with traditional and modern ships equipped with various navigation systems. In line with the rapid advancement of technology in the shipping sector from year to year, the navigation system continues to be developed and the latest model instruments are introduced to fully support shipping safety. The role of the navigation system in determining the position of the ship is very potential and is part of the officer's duties on the platform. The term navigation itself is used to refer to the real-time kinematic estimation process based on vehicle state (position, speed and attitude) as a reference for determining vehicle movement along the trajectory of movement. The ship's radar is an electronic device to detect objects around the ship within a radius of a radar range of 5 miles, 10, 20 or even 100 miles. The GPS satellite navigation system is able to provide realtime data at any time, making it easier to estimate the position, speed and attitude of moving objects. The research method that the writer uses is descriptive qualitative research method. The purpose of this research is to reveal facts, circumstances, phenomena, variables and circumstances that occur when the research is running and present it as it is. This research was conducted as long as the authors carried out marine practices, to be precise through the observations above MV.Arthur owned by PT. Dua Berlian Perkasa. In determining the position of the ship, accuracy is needed in order to obtain the position of the ship, in conducting Sea Practice (Prala) where the author compares the ship's position using the Radar Navigation system and the compass navigation system on the ship. With the conditions as above, the authors conducted a study to analyze the extent of the comparison between the use of a radar navigation system and a compass navigation system in determining the position of a ship. Keys Words: Navigation, Kompas Radar, Position
