Abstract

An air compressor is an engine that works using air or gas where air is sucked from the atmosphere. The air pressure is stored in the air bottle. Because this machine is very important, for its maintenance is not only to trap the air pressure in the air bottle or replace the lubricant. Maintenance and repairing strategies must be in accordance with PMS, because as well as any machine if not maintain will limit the decline in quality. The purpose of writing this scientific paper is to know the consequences of suction pressure valve and exhaust pressure valve damage to the performance of the air compressor in MT. Petrogaruda and to know the consequences of the lack of air compressor maintenance action on the performance of the air compressor in MT. Petrogaruda. The method used to solve the problem is the observation. This method requires the author to jump directly to make observations. Next is the interview, a method that gives some questions to the second engineer and fourth engineer. Next is the documentation, this method looks for data in the form of manual books, compressor maintenance records and photos of air compressors. Lastly, use a library that utilizes books as study material. The discussion in this scientific paper contains an overview of the object of observation, problems that occur in the compressor, the causes of problems in the air compressor, the consequences of problems in the air compressor, repair and maintenance of problems with the air compressor. The result of this scientific paper is the condition of the high and low pressure valve becomes better because the fourth engineer as the person in charge of the compressor always performs maintenance based on manual book and PMS and the fourth engineer becomes more disciplined to perform maintenance of the air compressor. The conclusion of this scientific paper is that the problem with the air compressor is caused by the break of the valve plate, the valve spring does not work optimally, lack of discipline of the engineer to perform maintenance and the number of spare parts is lacking, resulting in the compressor performance will decrease. To overcome these problems must be done valve maintenance periodically, selecting the workforce professionally, providing punishment and increasing the number of spare parts.
