Abstract

The number of officers and crew members is less than optimal in terms of special care of the inert gas system. Obstacles that occur such as generality in the components of the inert gas system, thus causing high oxygen levels in the tank because the inert gas is not channeled properly to the tank. As well as a major effect on the loading and unloading process such as delayed loading and unloading that causes losses for the company and tenant. For this reason, one of the steps to prevent these obstacles with regular overhauled treatment. Maintenance on board, especially inert gas system should be held every month and attached to monthly reports for the company to be able to monitor the condition of the tools on board. In the operation of the inert gas system required the role of Officers and Crews at the time of loading and unloading with inert gas sytem is very large. There are several things that must be considered one of them concerns the expertise of the operator and procedures in the process of loading and unloading cargo. For this reason, in this paper, the author tries to provide an explanation of the influence of the inert gas system in the loading and unloading process, namely there are still high levels of oxygen in the ground. as well as the lack of knowledge and discipline of officers and crew so that the Captain is advised to provide training on board continuously to overcome the problem. The author also describes the procedures related to loading and unloading with the inert gas system, as well as the knowledge and discipline of officers and crew in the operation of the inert gas system properly to create conducive and safe conditions.
