Abstract
Lifeboat is a safety device that can be used to evacuate all crew members in the event of an emergency. The problem that often occurs is the lack of skill in launching the lifeboats in accordance with the lifeboat maintenance procedures on the KM. Mustika Kencana. The purpose of the maintenance and operation of safety equipment (lifeboats) is to keep the southern equipment in good condition. The method used is descriptive qualitative. From the results of the writing of the factors that cause less than optimal performance of the lifeboats in KM. Musthika Kencana is the lack of spare parts, the lack of implementation of the PMS (Plan Maintenance System) that is not in accordance with the provisions, lack of skill in lifeboat launching tools. Factors that cause poor operation and descent of the crew in KM. Musthika Kencana is the slow process of operating and lowering the lifeboats, endangering the safety of the crew on board. Then efforts were made to optimize the maintenance of lifeboats in KM. Musthika Kencana is by implementing PMS (plan maintenance system) according to the provisions or guidelines.
