Abstract

In Indonesia, the slow growth of road infrastructure contributes to traffic congestion, while the rapid growth of vehicles contributes to smog pollution in urban areas. Problems with traffic jams, pollution and a high rate or cost of traffic deaths are signs of an unsustainable transport system. Mode selection is the most important model in transportation planning. This is due to the key role of public transport in various transport policies. No one can deny that public transport uses space much more efficiently than private transport. The purpose of this study is to test and empirically prove the influence of vehicle ownership, travel costs, pocket money/income, travel time, consideration of the convenience of transportation modes on the selection of private transportation modes to campus by Jember University students. The technique used is a non-probability sampling technique using incidental sampling. With a total data of 100 respondents who are active students in the even semester of Jember University from 16 faculties. Questionnaire data processing was assisted by statistical software SPSS version 16. The analytical method used was a quantitative approach to binary logistic regression. Based on the results of statistical testing using binary logistic regression and obtained a binary logistic regression model that has been transformed into a linear logit. From the results of binary logistic regression analysis, the model g(x) = - 3.495 - 0.047X1 + 1.348 X2 - 0.021 X3 + 0.204 X4 + 1.764 X5. From these results there are two independent variables that have a positive and significant influence on the selection of private transportation modes to campus using the wald test, namely the cost of travel (X1) and consideration of the convenience of transportation modes (X5) with the contribution of the independent variable to influence the dependent variable is 67.8%. Travel costs affect the choice of student modes to get to campus, because the greater the travel costs that must be borne, the students will choose a lower mode of transportation while convenience considerations have an influence on the choice of transportation modes for students at the University of Jember because for most students the vehicle conditions are comfortable, safe and affordable. fit for use is an important factor in traveling.
